Background

The Maritime industry has long suffered from outdated processes, with employers spending excessive time manually validating candidate credentials and tracking employee compliance. These inefficiencies, not only inflate operational costs, but also slow down recruitment and workforce management. At the same time, maritime professionals lack access to tools that help them effectively manage their careers, creating a disconnect that hinders both hiring and professional growth.

By addressing these pain points, our team has developed solutions that automate compliance tracking, streamline certification validation, and bridge the gap between employers and professionals — enhancing efficiency and empowering users across the industry.

Approach

This project presented an exciting opportunity to innovate within an industry that supports 2.5 million jobs and contributes $311 billion annually to the global GDP. With all the essential stakeholders in the founding group, we were able to move quickly. In just six months, we began testing our minimum viable product (MVP) with our target-user demographic.

As a nimble team, we iterated rapidly based on feedback, addressing key pain points and making incremental updates. After a handful of refinements, we successfully launched our first usable product. Recognizing that the idea was novel, we anticipated potential resistance from older segments of our user base. To address this, we focused on delivering a delightful experience from their very first interaction. This approach was instrumental in driving adoption across a diverse audience.

Impact

In the first month following our launch on the Apple App Store, we organically onboarded over 150 users. Some were mariners within our personal networks, while others discovered the app through word-of-mouth. Since then, we’ve maintained a steady base of weekly active users who regularly enter their sea time and credential information, search for opportunities, and apply for jobs. These interactions have provided us with valuable data to better understand user needs and identify key opportunities for growth.
